Placenta Tinctures

The postpartum period is a time of tremendous transition—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As doulas, we recognize that every family's journey is unique, and many parents seek personalized ways to honor their birth experience while supporting their recovery. One option that has become increasingly popular is a placenta tincture.

A placenta tincture is a long-lasting preparation made by infusing a small portion of the placenta in high-proof alcohol. Unlike placenta capsules, which are typically consumed during the early postpartum weeks, a tincture can be stored for years and used as part of a family's ongoing postpartum and wellness practices.

Many families choose a placenta tincture because it offers a low cost way to gain placenta consumption benefits.

Because tinctures are shelf-stable and require only a few drops at a time, they can be kept on hand for years after birth.

Some parents choose to use their tincture during periods of change, such as:

  • Returning to work after parental leave

  • Weaning from breastfeeding

  • The return of menstrual cycles

  • Significant life transitions or stressful periods

  • Menopause

As birth professionals, we believe informed choices are essential. While many parents share positive personal experiences with placenta tinctures, scientific research has not established specific health benefits from consuming placenta products. Experiences vary from person to person, and current evidence remains limited.

For this reason, we encourage families to view placenta tinctures as a personal wellness choice rather than a guaranteed solution for postpartum concerns.

Proper preparation and handling are important whenever working with placental tissue. Families considering placenta services should work with trained professionals who follow established safety and sanitation protocols.

Our role as doulas is to provide education, support, and compassionate care as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Whether you're interested in placenta encapsulation, tinctures, keepsakes, or simply learning more about your options, we're here to help you make the choices that feel right for your family.

Every birth story is unique, and every postpartum journey deserves to be honored with care, respect, and informed support.
