Overnight Support for Sleepy Parents

How to Prepare for Newborn Sleep Patterns

The first 6-8 weeks after your baby is born can be a huge adjustment for your family. You and your baby will learn new skills and gradually figure out your new normal. One of the biggest concerns and adjustments is often sleep. It’s very common for newborns to wake every 2 hours to feed overnight. New babies have tiny tummies and need to eat frequently, so it’s important to plan for this adjustment.

We help new parents cope with sleep changes in several different ways:

  • Postpartum Planning sessions: to adequately plan for rest and all of the support you need.

  • Daytime Postpartum Doula Sessions: to allow for naps, tackling household chores, and meal prep so you can sleep when the baby sleeps. Our favorite way to do this is with early morning sessions — parents get to sleep in while we make breakfast and care for the baby.

  • Overnight care: so you can get the most rest possible. We can change diapers, soothe baby back to sleep, and only wake you to nurse — or offer bottles if you prefer. Most families that we’ve done overnight care for had no idea a postpartum doula could fill that role when they were initially searching for help!

At Flourish we believe your smallest family member has a reason for waking. We follow baby’s lead and practice gentle, compassionate care. Sleep adjustments can be rough, but the important thing to remember is that it’s temporary and someday soon you will get normal sleep again! Until then, we’re here to make sure everyone gets through the transition.
